Description
Groom Professional Thornit is a versatile powder for dogs, cats, and rabbits that treats and prevents infections in the ears, skin, and anus.
Groom Professional Thornit is a powder designed for use on the ears, skin, and anus of dogs, cats, and rabbits. It effectively treats and prevents infections, soothing and eliminating irritation inside the ears and unpleasant ear odors. The product provides relief from ear infections and can also be used on other parts of the body.
Ears:
Superficial otitis media in dogs is often caused by mites that are picked up from grass or indirectly from foxes. The most common symptom is brownish, waxy crusts inside the ears, caused by mites that thrive in dark environments. These crusts can be dry or slightly oozing, causing a noticeable odor. Another type of infection is more offensive and foul-smelling, resembling a rotting wound. Symptoms include scratching, head shaking, rubbing the ears on the floor, and general irritability. Constant scratching can lead to bloody abrasions, inflammation, and blood clots. Standard treatments with drops or antibiotics provide only temporary relief. Thornit contains no antibiotics, making it a safe option.
Treatment:
Thornit powder is recommended for treatment. For animals with long hair, part the hair with a comb and sprinkle Thornit on the exposed skin.
Anus:
If an animal drags its hindquarters on the floor and it's not due to a disease of the perianal glands, mites may be present under the tail. Apply a thin layer of gentle cream to a finger or glove, immerse it in the powder, and apply it exactly where necessary, below the tail.
Paws:
Mites can get between the claws, causing constant licking, upset, and fatigue, leading to fur pulling and self-biting. To treat, place a plastic bag with a small amount of Thornit powder on the paws, applying the powder between the claws, on the pads, and slightly higher up the legs.
Important: Only a very small amount of Thornit is used for all applications. Be cautious, as iodomethane (Iodoform) may stain light-colored carpets or fabrics.
Directions for Use:
Excess moisture can be gently removed with a cotton swab. Do not remove the wax. Under normal circumstances, the powder should not be applied directly inside the ear, as the brown wax acts as a stopper. Hold the animal in a comfortable position (lying on its side). With cats, assistance may be needed. Soothe your pet with petting and apply a pinch of powder using the tip of a spoon. Sprinkle a small amount around the inside of the ear (the inner ear area), avoiding getting the powder into the ear opening. Gently massage from the outside with your fingers. Apply Thornit twice daily. The first dose will provide relief, but treatment should be continued for 1-5 days (usually 3). When brown wax begins to exude, discontinue treatment. This indicates the mites have been killed, and the wax will flow out with the powder, leaving the ear clean. A pinch of Thornit in each ear once a week will protect your pet from reinfection. For breeds with long ears, it's a good idea to dip the tip of the ear in Thornit once a week.
